Community for First Steps

Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

1. WHO WE ARE

Community for First Steps Ltd ('Community', 'we', 'us') operates this website and platform. We are registered in England & Wales, company number [COMPANY NUMBER], registered office [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS]. You can contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].

2. WHAT COMMUNITY IS — AND ISN'T

Community is an introduction platform. We let verified local businesses post short work experience placements, and let young people aged 16-24 ('applicants') discover and apply to them. We are not an employer, employment agency, employment business, school, or careers service. We do not employ applicants, we do not place them, and we are not a party to any arrangement between an applicant and a business. Each placement is offered, run and supervised entirely by the business providing it.

3. YOUR ACCOUNT

You must give accurate information when creating an account and keep your login details private. Applicant accounts are for individuals aged 16-24. Business accounts must be created by someone authorised to act for that business. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or our Acceptable Use rules.

4. BUSINESS VERIFICATION

Businesses must pass our verification before their listings appear. We check company details against official records and a member of our team reviews every application to join. Verification means we checked the business exists and appeared legitimate at the time of checking — it is not an endorsement, inspection, or guarantee of any placement, workplace or person.

5. RESPONSIBILITIES OF BUSINESSES

Businesses are solely responsible for their placements, including: the accuracy of their listings; supervision and welfare of applicants during a placement; workplace health and safety; complying with all applicable law (including working-time, safeguarding and, where a placement is paid, minimum wage law); and holding appropriate insurance, including employers' liability insurance where required. Businesses must tell us promptly if their circumstances materially change.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES OF APPLICANTS

Applicants must provide truthful profile and application information, attend arranged placements or withdraw properly through the platform, and follow the reasonable instructions of the host business during a placement.

7. OUR ROLE BETWEEN YOU

Applications, status updates, offers and post-offer messages happen through the platform. We may monitor and act on platform activity to keep the service safe, including removing content and suspending accounts. Any placement arrangement formed after an offer is between the applicant and the business.

8. FEES

Community is free for applicants. Core listings are currently free for businesses; if paid features are introduced, their terms and prices will be shown before purchase.

9. CONTENT

You keep ownership of content you upload (such as CVs, photos and listing text) and give us a licence to host and display it for running the platform. You must have the right to upload what you upload. We may remove content that breaks these Terms or the law.

10. LIABILITY

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law. Subject to that: we provide the platform 'as is'; we are not liable for the acts or omissions of businesses or applicants, for what happens during placements, or for losses that are not a foreseeable result of our breaking these Terms; and our total liability to you in connection with the platform is limited to £100 or the amount you have paid us in the last 12 months, whichever is higher. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. ENDING THINGS

You can close your account at any time. We can suspend or end accounts that break these Terms, our Acceptable Use rules, or the law, or where needed to protect users.

12. CHANGES

We may update these Terms; material changes will be flagged on the platform. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

13. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction (if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings there).
